After being diagnosed with depression in 2013, I began researching side effects of medication—primarily, antidepressants. Eventually, I decided to start talking to people instead of looking up random statistics and generic descriptions online.
I thought I wanted to learn more about the side effects of medication. Instead, the more I spoke with people, the more I was exposed to the wider scope of mental illness. I learned about different forms of mental illness and how it manifests itself in everyday life. I learned how different people choose to cope in different ways. And I learned how common it is.
Most individuals I interviewed and photographed were officially diagnosed (diagnosis include anorexia nervosa, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and more).
